How can a painting become audible to its viewers?
How do shadow, texture, figure, color, brushstroke, and surface synchronize—
to be listened to, again or for the first time?
die anhörung (part I)
die anhörung (part I), a one-night event conceived of by the artist Lea von Wintzingerode, brings together a new body of her visual works with a live set by the duo Stemeseder–Lillinger, forming an immersive, acoustically responsive installation.
This encounter is neither a traditional exhibition nor a concert, but a time-based activation of space through visual and sonic means. The paintings—equipped with transducers and acoustic frames—act as resonant bodies, participating in the soundscape as much as receiving it. Together, the artists transform the room into a field of heightened perception, where sound is not only heard, but felt and seen.

Lea von Wintzingerode (b. 1990, Germany) lives and works in Berlin, Germany. She studied at the Academy of Fine Arts, Vienna, and the University of Fine Arts, Hamburg, graduating with a Master of Fine Arts degree under Prof. Jutta Koether in 2016. Recent solo exhibitions include notes on radical love, Oldenburger Kunstverein, DE (2022); Laetitia, Jacky Strenz, Frankfurt/Main, DE (2020); and The Contract, Lulu Annex, Mexico City, MX (2019). Her work has also been featured in group exhibitions such as City Prince/sses at Palais de Tokyo, Paris, FR (2019); Exhibition Paintings at Kunst Meran, IT (2017); and Independence Day II at Sommer Gallery, Tel Aviv, IL (2017).
STEMESEDER-LILLINGER is the collaborative producer-duo of composer-performers Elias Stemeseder (b. 1990) and Christian Lillinger (b. 1984). Drawing from various strains of contemporary and historic music and sound art practices, the duo’s work makes use of a wealth of compositional strategies, instruments, and production methods, seeking to create an uncompromisingly personal sonic idiom through synthesis of disparate modes of musical thought. This has been documented via the LP releases PENUMBRA, ANTUMBRA, and the upcoming PENUMBRA II (all on Plaist Records), as well as through a series of video works. A central pillar of the duo’s artistic practice is collaboration with contemporaries, which has been documented in their UMBRA catalogue on Intakt Records and features guest artists such as Craig Taborn, Peter Evans, and DoYeon Kim. Their work has been presented at unerhört! (Zürich, Switzerland), BIMHUIS 50 (Amsterdam, Netherlands), Casa del Libro UNAM (Mexico City), De/Semble (Vienna, Austria), Cerkno (Slovenia), A L’Arme! (Berlin, Germany), and Schwere Reiter (Munich, Germany), among others.
