(Of course I love you. It is my fault that you have not known it all the while.
"Of course I love you. It is my fault that you have not known it all the while." This is a line spoken by a rose with four thorns to the little prince, who is about to leave, in the story of The Little Prince. Recently, I revisited this confession from the rose and came to see it as a crucial footnote to the taming relationship—between humans and other species, and between oneself and others. The "rose" becomes a word laden with specific imagery, and isn't that "love" of the rose—the love "you have not known"—also a reflection of countless individuals who, after being disciplined, have gradually lapsed into aphasia? Amidst tangled pain and pleasure, the rose's love is constructed, and gradually, to satisfy the desires of others, it swallows what is given to it (nourishment or poison?). Centering on the rose, I aim to explore its aphasia and how false illusions are slowly forged.
